What side do you print vinyl on Cricut?
One side of the Printable Vinyl sheet is white with a matte finish and the other side has grid lines. Print on the matte, blank side.
Cutting Vinyl with a Cricut machine
Place vinyl liner side down onto Cricut StandardGrip Mat. Select images and size and load the mat into the machine. Refer to Kiss Cut Guide below to adjust machine settings. Press flashing Go button.
Tip 2: Cut with the Carrier Side Down and the Adhesive Side Up. When working with heat transfer vinyl, the shiny side of the material always goes face down for cutting.
Place the iron-on vinyl onto the cutting mat “shiny side down.” In other words, with the plastic carrier sheet facing down. You'll remember that iron-on vinyl is made up of two layers: the dull vinyl layer and the shiny plastic carrier sheet.
To sum it all up, do not mirror permanent vinyl, the same concept applies to removable vinyl. Use transfer tape to transfer the design so you can stick it to the merchandise. Always scale the design prior to sending it to the cutting machine, and always use a cutting mat.
The tongue is the side that you will want to place against the wall as you start your laminate-flooring installation.
Whatever mat and machine you are using, put your adhesive vinyl paper backing side down onto your mat so the colored vinyl side is facing up (see image below). If your vinyl came on a roll, you can cut off a piece to fit on your mat.
Flooring is typically installed in the same direction as your leading source of natural light, and the same goes for luxury vinyl. If you have large windows in a living room or an entryway that allows a flood of natural light, then run your planks in the same direction.
The shiny side is the liner, and the dull side is the heat activated side that you will adhere to an object. You can tell iron-on vinyl from regular vinyl by the front liner.
You can use printable iron on with all sorts of fabric blanks, including t-shirts, tote bags, onsies, and more. You can even use it on wood—I have a tutorial for that coming soon!
How do I know which side to print on?
Another way to find the printable side is to lick your finger and lightly touch a corner on the front and back. Your finger will stick slightly to the coated side. Finally, make a small mark on the front and back with a highlighter. The brighter more well defined mark is on the coated side.
The general rule of thumb is when you take the wrapper off your paper the seam side of the wrapper generally indicates the first side you should print on.
You want to print on the dull (uncolored) side, not the shiny side which is tinted with color. Make sure the paper is not curled or bent at the leading edge. Remember that the image that ends up on your fabric will be a mirror image of what is on your computer screen.
Yes, you should mirror the design when using heat transfer vinyl. Regardless of the pattern, or type of the heat transfer vinyl, you should always mirror the design.
